Key staples for your Autumn / Winter wardrobe
This is my go to checklist for creating capsules for your Work, Rest and Play lifestyle during the cooler months
Building the ideal wardrobe is all about understanding your lifestyle, body shape, personality and choosing garments and outfits which complement.
In this blog I am going to focus on lifestyle and guide you with the key items you should invest in and specifically for each capsule (of work, rest and play), so you can create as many outfits as possible.
I am sure you have heard this line before, “I have nothing to wear” along side a wardrobe already bursting full with clothes. Well here is a guide to break it down and make it easier to find and create.
Work capsule
Perhaps self explanatory and should include what you wear commuting. You may even have a uniform or you are guided by your workplace on what you can or cannot wear.
When I was managing fashion stores, I wore mostly classic business attire. Which is not truly my style personality but it was the persona I wanted to portray.
Rest capsule
This is for when you are at home and perhaps enjoy being more comfortable and relaxed. Or walking the dog or popping out to the food shopping.
Play capsule
This is for when you go out and want to dress to impress. Certain styles of garment can mix across each capsules. And can be smartened or relaxed by the accessories you add.
Key Capsules for your wardrobe
Start by separating all items for the Autumn/Winter months and those for the Spring/Summer period.
I recommend you empty your wardrobe of your Spring/Summer items so you can put these away by using clear boxes with lids (check out Amazon for lots of selections) or use a vacuum bag as a great space saving alternative.
If you are someone who likes to travel for some warmth and sunshine during the U.K.’s colder months, I recommend packing your travel bag with your summer wear before you pack it all away. Certainly, this will save you time later and you can use my other blog to help you pack your case.
This should now leave some space in your wardrobe so you can organise it into three capsules (Work / Rest / Play).
Now start by picking the capsule that’s most important for you.
“If you have had your colours analysed, follow your palette. Check out my blog for current fashion colours for the season.”
I recommend you choose two to three colours for each capsule plus your best dark neutrals (ie one of Black / Navy / Charcoal / Brown) and your best light neutrals (ie one of White / Soft White / Ivory / Cream).
If you have had your colours analysed, follow your seasonal palette. Here is my blog for the this Autumn / Winter’s trending fashion colours (which you will find when shopping), split by season for your guidance:

If you haven’t had your colours analysed (and you really should), check out my blog to do your own DIY colour analysis or if budget and time permits, where you can find a colour expert to help you (and possibly me if you leave near Berkshire):

Your Autumn/Winter checklist
In addition to choosing the right footwear, you should also invest in outdoor scarves, gloves and hats. Look out for my new blog on accessories for each capsules. Coming soon…
If you enjoy skiing in the winter months, you will need a separate capsule for this and I recommend you avoid keeping this in your main wardrobe. It will only get in the way.
Your Style Personality
This is because we all have different style personalities and wear certain garment types and styles more than others.
For example, if your style personality is a:
– Natural: You will prefer more tops than blouses and more jeans than trousers.
– Classic: You will prefer more blouses than tops and more trousers than jeans.
– Romantic: You will prefer more dresses than skirts and more blouses than tops.
– Dramatic: You will prefer more dresses than jumpsuits and more skirts than trousers.
– Contemporary: You will prefer more blouses than tops and more dresses than skirts.
– Creative: You will prefer jumpsuits more than trousers and skirts more than jeans.
