Get ready for Autumn / Winter 2024 fashion
What’s on trend and what should you be looking for?
It’s wishful thinking at the start of September to think Autumn has already arrived, however new season clothes are starting to appear online and in stores, so here is a little preview of what’s to come…
If you have organised your wardrobe into Autumn / Winter and Spring / Summer seasons and into your lifestyle capsules (one for each of Work, Rest & Play) you will more quickly see if there are any gaps or maybe you just fancy a couple of new items to create some fabulous new outfits.
Just have a think about the season ahead… do you have any special events? Has there been any changes to your lifestyle? As these answers should help focus your buying needs.
Trends for AW24
Read on to learn the key trends for the forthcoming Autumn / Winter season for 2024 (aka ‘AW24’).
This will help you know what to expect and so you can plan ahead.
Just remember my golden rule, which is to only invest in styles which complement your unique body shape.
Remember, if you’ve signed up to My Secret Stylist, you’ll clearly know what’s going to be a hit or miss.
Tops for AW24
The high neck is back, so if you have a short neck make sure to open up your neckline. Wear necklaces that create an illusion of length and a V neck shape.
Pair with a camouflage denim skirt and jeans if you want a casual look or with straight to wide leg trousers or a bubble skirt for that ‘going out’ look.
Shirts & Blouses for AW24
Expect sheer fabrics with frills and the corporate tailored shirt with interesting collars.
Great for your work wardrobe with a pair of trousers or skirt or if for your going out (play) capsule, pair with smart jeans or trousers and a heel.
Cardigans for AW24
Expect to see maxi cardigans that flow over a shift dress or pencil skirt with a crisp white shirt, or well fitted trousers with a turtle neck jumper.
Jackets for AW24
Plenty of trench coats, biker jackets and a Chanel style cardigan jacket (a must have for an Inverted Triangle), to go with your Work, Rest and Play capsule wardrobes.
Blazers for AW24
Formality is continuing with blazers with large and interesting collars and an overall boxier look.
I recommend for petite and average height ladies, with Hourglass, Pear or Column shapes that you make sure it is well fitted. However, if you are a tall girl (what I define as 5ft7 and above) you are able to carry this off.
Pair a blazer with a fitted top, jumper or smart shirt or blouse.
“Patterns this season are leopard, camouflage, herringbone and tweed. For best effect consider your scale and match with the appropriate pattern size.
Dresses for AW24
Frills and maxis are still trending. In leopard and camouflage patterns and sheer, knitted fabrics with high necks and interesting collars.
Leopard print for your Play capsule and camouflage print for your Rest capsule wardrobes are perfect.
Jeans for AW24
Big and baggy jeans are still in for the Autumn/Winter 2024-25 season. These are great for Inverted, Lean column and Hourglass shapes.
Bootcut and wide-leg jeans are back on all the runways. Great for Pear, Column and Apple shapes.
Wear baggy / wide-leg jeans with a fitted top and high heel boots (or shoe) for a ‘Play’ look.
Again, be careful with wide-legs if you are Petite (below 5ft3″) as these styles will swamp you. Instead opt for a classic bootcut, straight / slim style.
Trousers for AW24
Similar to jeans, expect to see trousers with wide leg designs with front pleats.
If you have a short torso, remember that a high rise style with pleats will crop your upper half even more, so I recommend avoiding these and choosing standard or lower rise to maintain that all important balance.
Skirts for AW24
Expect to see bubble hem, wrap and straight styles in camouflage patterns.
Maxi skirts are still bang on trend, and great for all heights. Midi is great as well but if you’re Petite, please stay clear of these as they will make you look even shorter.
The mini length is still on trend and paired with tights and long boots is a great eye-catching ‘Play’ outfit.
The Patterns
Patterns this season are leopard, camouflage, herringbone and tweed.
For best effect, consider your scale and match with the appropriate pattern size.
For example, if you are tall, like the lady in this photo, large prints look great on you.
However, for those of us who are petite, choose patterns that are smaller as these will better complement.
The Fabrics
This season you will find the following fabrics: faux fur, feathers, shearling or yarn with some sparkle and glitter.
Corduroy, velvet, denim and faux leather is bang on trend.
Time to get that denim maxi skirt paired with a pair of trainers or dress it up with ankle boots for fabulous ‘Play’ look.
The Accessories
Fuzzy, furry and feathers, in scarfs, and shoes.
Leopard print, two tone shoes and boots.
Get your fluffy gloves out and know that this season accessories are in focus and full on.
Make sure you avoid wearing bulky accessories on the widest parts of your body.
For Pear shapes, only wear bulky scarves, hats and shoes.
For Column and Lean column shapes, only wear bulky gloves, belts and shoes.
For the Apple and Inverted triangle shapes, only wear bulky bags, gloves and shoes.
For an Hourglass, simply follow your shape but be mindful of your height and choose smaller accessories if you are petite.
