Flattering hats for your face shape

Ever wondered which hats best suit you? Find out here.

Anyone who knows about my services will know that my mantra is “know your body shape – and dress for your body shape.”

That goes for your face too.

Just like a huge pattern on a dress won’t complement a petite body, so will the wrong style of hat if it doesn’t complement your face shape.

Just as I teach my clients what their body shape is (spoiler alert – less than one in three women know their primary body shape) and therefore what clothes will look best on them, I am going to teach you what hat styles will suit your face shape.

Once you’ve read this blog, go and take your new found skill and try it out.

Hats are fun, elegant, practical, and can dramatically transform your outfit.

So choose wisely and you’ll love your look.

As will all your admirers!

First of all, you need to know your face shape!

Best way to find out your face shape

Grab a lip or eye liner and stand in front of a mirror.  Pull your hair back and then draw a line around your face shape.  Then step back.

This will give you a clear idea of what shape you have.

Here are the seven shapes you could be:

Round

Heart

Square

Oblong

Triangular

Oval

Diamond

Now, for some of these shapes I am not expecting your face to be exactly square / triangular or oblong – otherwise you’ll look like a Mr. Man… but choose the shape that most closely reflects the outline of your face.

If you really are unsure, see my guide at the end of this blog.

“If you have an Oval face shape you are the lucky one as you can experiment with various hat styles.

For you, it’s all about what you prefer and choosing the style that best reflects your personality”

Round face shape

Try asymmetrical options like a fedora hat, panama hat or baseball cap.

Avoid round crowns that are likely to enhance the roundness.

Heart face shape

What looks great are fedoras and panamas, cloches, caps, and also beanies.

Try wearing the hat on a slant to draw attention away from your broader forehead.

Square face shape

Rounded-brim hats soften your sharp edges (a bit like sunglasses do).

Great options include sunhats, cowboy hats, and cloches.

Your aim is to soften the angles of your face.

Oblong face shape

Choose hats that feature a flared brim and low crown, such as a sunhat, or wide-brimmed fedora.

Personally, I envy people with oblong faces as I love sunhats!

Try wearing the hat lower down your forehead to help balance the face.

Oval face shape

You are the lucky one as you can experiment with various hat styles.

For you, it’s all about what you prefer and choosing the style which best reflects your personality.

Triangular face shape

Similar to those with an oval-shaped face, you can experiment with lots of styles and go with what best suits your personality.

Diamond face shape

The goal is to soften angles and bring balance to a narrow forehead and jawline, and avoid emphasizing the widest part (cheekbones).

Beanies, berets and medium-brim fedoras achieve this.

“When you choose a hat style that suits your face shape, trust me, you’ll very quickly love wearing a hat!”

I still need help -what is my face shape?

Round face shape

Both length and width are equal. This shape features full cheeks and a rounded chin.

Heart face shape

One of the more common shapes where the chin is the narrowest part, complemented by a broader forehead and prominent cheekbones.

Square face shape

The length is nearly the same as the width.

So, the distance from forehead to chin and cheek to cheek are approximately equal.

Oblong face shape

Longer than the width, this face shape has similar measurements for the forehead, cheekbones and jawline.

Often with a high forehead.

Oval face shape

This face type measures about one and a half times longer than its width.

You will have a forehead slightly wider than the jawline and softly rounded angles.

Triangular face shape

This shape features a broad jawline, smaller cheekbones and the narrowest forehead.

Triangular face shapes can vary in length.

Diamond face shape

This shape has a narrow forehead and jawline.

Cheekbones are the widest point.

Now you’ve got the right hat.

What about your hair?

When you choose a hat style that suits your face shape, trust me, you will very quickly love wearing a hat!

But don’t stop there.

Choosing a hair style which also complements your face shape and skin tone similarly boosts your confidence and makes you feel good about yourself.

Funnily enough, I’ve written a blog on this subject too.  Here’s the link:

Which hair style suits your face shape?

It’s well worth the effort ladies.

You’ll look great and feel fabulous.

Which is why I do what I do!
